Des serves as Principal at Dougan Consulting Group and is located in North Vancouver, BC. Des founded Dougan Consulting Group in 2000.

In parallel with operating Dougan Consulting Group, Des served as Director, Information and Computing Services at Vancouver Community College from 1997 to 2007. Before arriving at Vancouver Community College, Des served as Manager, Administrative Application Services at Douglas College. Prior to that, Des served as Systems Support Team Leader at Andersen Consulting. Earlier in his career, Des served as Manager, Operations and Service Management at London Stock Exchange.

At present, Des is a member of North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, serving on the Membership Committee, and the North Shore Business Success Group.

Des's core expertise includes over 20 years' IT management experience in various industry sectors. Specialized in providing effective leadership, and with a background in organizations in Canada and the UK. Major strengths include:
